The drone has completed multiple test flights, China Central Television (CCTV) News reported.
Long Bamboo, a company based in East China's Fujian Province, developed the technique that preserves the bamboo's tough outer layer and allows different parts with different densities of the material to be used according to their properties, improving its overall performance.
In the past, the outer skin of bamboo was often treated as leftover material and eventually burned into low-value bamboo charcoal.
According to a company release in February, bamboo-based composites now make up more than 25 percent of the entire drone, while its fuselage skin is made entirely from the company's own high-performance bamboo composite material.
The bamboo-based material also offers a major cost advantage, costing only about one-quarter to one-tenth as much as aviation-grade carbon fiber. After the drone is retired, the material can naturally degrade, allowing it to effectively "come from nature and return to nature."
The team spent four years building data models, upgrading equipment and refining the material. The resulting drone has a wingspan of more than 2.5 meters but weighs only about 7 kilograms, and has already completed multiple test flights, according to CCTV News.
Bamboo was traditionally used mainly in products such as tableware and furniture. Now, however, the material is finding its way into a wider range of industrial applications. Bamboo fiber is being used in automobile interiors, while bamboo-based materials are also being explored as possible substitutes for plastics, glass fiber and carbon fiber in some applications. 
China has the world's largest bamboo resource base, with about 7.56 million hectares of bamboo forests nationwide. The country also ranks among the world leaders in bamboo resources, bamboo cultivation technologies and the development and utilization of bamboo materials, per CCTV News.

대전지법 제1형사부(재판장 강길연)은 특정범죄 가중 처벌 등에 관한 법률 위반(도주치사)·아동복지법 위반(아동학대) 등 혐의를 받는 A(38)씨의 2심 첫 공판을 26일 진행했다. A씨 측 변호인은 “1심에서 범행을 일부 부인했으나, 이제는 범행을 인정하는 입장”이라고 말을 바꿔 말했다.A씨도 변호인 입장과 같다고 했다.이날 법정에서 발언 기회를 얻은 피해자 B씨 아버지는 “범행을 부인하던 것을 이제서야 인정한다는데, 경찰·검찰·1심 재판부 전체를 농락하는 것”이라며 “진심 어린 사과를 한 번도 받지 못했다. 합의할 수 없다”고 밝혔다.A씨 측은 피해자 측과 사죄하고 협의할 시간을 갖길 원한다고 밝혔고 2심 재판부는 한 기일 더 속행하기로 했다.A씨에 대한 다음 재판은 다음 달 30일에 열린다.A씨는 지난 1월 9일 오후 9시 20분께 충남 홍성군 홍북읍의 한 도로에서 술을 마신 채 앞서가던 오토바이를 들이받아 운전자 B(20대)씨를 숨지게 한 혐의를 받는다.예비 신랑이던 B씨는 퇴근 후 귀가하던 중 사고를 당한 것으로 조사됐다.당시 A씨는 B씨의 상태를 확인하고도 신고하거나 조치하지 않고 피해자와 사고 목격자 등을 향해 욕설하며 “너 때문에 이렇게 된 것 아니냐”, “내 새끼들 놀랐다”는 등 발언을 한 것으로 전해졌다.적발 당시 A씨의 혈중알코올농도는 면허 취소 수준을 넘은 0.211%였으며 차량 안에는 4살, 6살 딸들도 타고 있는 상황이었다.또 A씨는 제한 속도가 시속 60㎞인 도로에서 시속 178㎞로 운전한 것으로 파악됐다.검찰은 A씨의 행동이 정서적 학대에 해당한다고 판단, 아동복지법 위반 혐의도 적용했다.A씨는 1심에서 만취 상태였기에 B씨의 사망을 인지하지 못했고 도주 의사가 없었다고 주장했지만, 재판부는 이를 받아들이지 않고 징역 12년을 선고했다. 1심 재판부는 “사고 직후 A씨가 현장에서 목격자 등 다른 사람들과 대화를 나누는 등 전반적인 행동을 살펴보면 교통사고 발생 사실을 충분히 인지했다고 인정된다”며 “경찰차와 구급차가 도착하자 A씨는 말없이 걸어서 현장을 이탈했고 사고 목격자가 A씨의 뒷모습을 발견하고 경찰에 귀띔해 추적이 이뤄졌다”고 판시했다.이어 “피고인이 만취 상태에서 난폭 운전을 했고 피해자의 상태를 돌볼 수 있었음에도 조치하지 않고, 외려 자신의 책임을 타인에게 돌리는 등 비난 가능성이 너무 크다”며 “특히 자녀를 보호해야 함에도 만취 난폭 운전을 하며 자녀들에게 정신건강, 발달에 상당한 해를 끼쳤고 이 역시 상당한 중범죄”라고 양형 이유를 설명했다.이후 A씨와 검찰이 모두 양형 부당 등을 이유로 항소했다.。
